Downloading and using your game without uploading

17 Feb 2022, 10:52Hi Guys,
I'm just wondering if there is a process to not need to upload your game.
And if you can simply save it and use it for offline purposes.
For instance if I wanted to create a training game for my staff, or wanted to create an educational game for my child and just wanted to put it straight on their laptop, or wanted to create an app for the app store.
Any advice would be incredible,
thanks!

17 Feb 2022, 11:01If you're using the desktop editor, there is no requirement to upload a game. You can just play it.
If you're using the web editor, you can either publish it so that your team can play it with the web player, or download the desktop version of Quest.

17 Feb 2022, 11:08Okay but
say I made a game called: Bob's adventure
If i wanted to download that game to be playable as a .EXE which you could play on any device
or if I wanted to turn it into an app which I could upload on to the google play store or apple app store.
does it always need to be played within quest (whether online or offline) ?
As it says you can sell the games you make - So if a company wanted me to develop a training game for them - how would I do it where I could make it an executable file that I could just send them ?

You can't. Quest creates Quest files, which can be played using the Quest player.

Yes.
If you want to sell games, you need to tell your customers that they need a copy of Quest to play it; or include Quest with the game. (It's rare, but I know of one person who's actually done this)

17 Feb 2022, 16:45ahh right - thats strange as this is what it says on the create page ( http://textadventures.co.uk/quest) :
...and you're free
No restrictions. Quest is licenced under the MIT License.
This means you can download and modify the Quest source code, and do whatever you want with it.
You can sell the games you make with Quest. You can use the Quest source code inside closed source commercial applications.
You don't need to ask for permission - you already have it.
