Room/object limit?

14 Sept 2005, 17:51I was wondering if there is a limit to how many object / rooms you can make because the game im making will use a massive amount of rooms in the end im sure. I just want to know if I should cut back on the content and limit the hole story line.
As is im using two pages of binder paper for each day and the game will be no doubt well over 1000 days if not more.
I guess we will need to see but is there a known limit at all or no limit at all.

14 Sept 2005, 19:24There are many limits.
The room/object limit is the highest signed integer - so 32,700 odd or something.
I think that's 32,700 rooms, then 32,700 objects... But I wouldn't know.

14 Sept 2005, 20:16I guess I could make it a two part game.
Ill no doubt cut down on alot of the ideas and then make like a version 2 saves time in the end.

15 Sept 2005, 16:15lol. no-one's making the crap this-is-my-house games anymore. we're all making really good ones, mine being a freeform rpg where you can do what you like. it's going to take awhile. anyway i was wondering if anyone would like to join a team in order to help the game be made.

15 Sept 2005, 19:57I was thinking about making a game with no point or story line meaning it just be like a rpg game but with no point you could just walk around town get a job, shop, chat, and what not but then I though about it and I dont want to make the systems.
I don't have a issue making the rooms. Its the money system the time system item shop etc.

You want to make a game with no point? Or storyline?
Definitely number one on my Most Anticipated Games list.

16 Sept 2005, 07:08lol. be nice. what's wrong wiht a game where the stiry isn't set and you can do what you want? clearly you've never played a mmorpg in your life! they're as if not more fun than set storyed games. you should be more open-minded and not just insult everything you don't like or understand.

16 Sept 2005, 08:12There's one thing I would like from people, a good sum to get damage from simple stats (stats go up to about 255) that doesn't go above the 32,000 limit.

That's one thing. A game, like he said, with "no point" and "no storyline" is something else altogether.

I've played plenty of RPGs, but never any MMORPGs - what's the difference?

Probably true. But insulting things is so much more fun.

16 Sept 2005, 15:51a mmorpg is like an rpg BUT:
1/ it's online. therefore other players.
2/ it's huge. bigger than any rpg. with many servers to fit all the people in.
3/ they're much more developed and free-form.
try this: world of warcraft

18 Sept 2005, 19:48I've only started playing WoW recently (8 Touran Shaman still on guest pass).
If you're interested in MMORPGS but don't want to deal with the monthly fees, try Guild Wars. I'm, personally, more of a FFXI person (37 RDM), but WoW seems to be the thing of the moment. (Soon to change after FFXI's November graphics update..
