Game-in-development?

I was just wondering who is in the middle of creating a game. It seems that most people's energy lately has been spent on flaming. Plus, I've been waiting for ages for a new game to appear in the download section. Come on, peeps! I myself had been in middle of creating 4 games, but as you know, (I posted something about it) my hard drive was wiped out. I ended up needing to re-install xp. :cry: I lost EVERYTHING!!! Including countless hours of Quest work....gone!!

As of now, I haven't started creating games again; too busy getting back everything that I lost. But I hope to start again soon. I was in middle of creating an Angel game, but I lost interest since all of that code was wiped out. I need a refreshing idea. I could probably think of one, but I'd like to hear everyone's ideas: What kind of game would interest you all?

Anyway, if you are in middle of creating a game, please post below what it is called, what it's about, and when you think it will be finished. (I've noticed how people are always "in middle" of creating a game, but they somehow are never released.)

Option 4 for me I'm afraid. I keep meaning to start work on a Quest game but I generally find the interface too longwinded for even the most simple things, and before long I simply quit.

One day though...

I was creating a Resident Evil game-type-thing, until I stopped.
Then I was doing a love-themed one.. But stopped
That was Quest 2.16 or something, so that was the major factor... Loads of annoying things back then.

Right now I'm waiting for the ability to handle higher numbers, but am thinking about doing a spy-type game before I get onto my RPG game when the next Quest comes along.

i've been making TBC but having worked on it in ages! i've resently taken up smoking and getting more of a social life...... :roll:

I started smoking to "get in wiht the crowd" (the wrong crowd....i sound like my mum!) and now i cant stop so just a little advice.

im making a stategy game like C & C but in lotr style (orcs and stuff) and basing it around the world i created in my highly unsucessful last game.

Im spending ALOT of time on this one so hopefully it will be good.

I'd have to agree with you on that one. I prefer immediate results with programming to having to make a lot of stuff before the game becomes truly runnable

I'm not sure if I should start development on Game1, Game2 or finish off my ASL checker, and then maybe start on a C++ ASL interpreter.

Ahh, yes.... Decisions, decisions.

IMO, I think the ASL Checker would be a good choice.

Yeah, and then that C++ ASL interpreter. That'll be a big help for some people. I remember when I campaigned for a standalone Quest game player!

It'll be a basic DOS prompt as I'm not gonna be using any widget libraries etc..
Number 2:
No font colour formatting - as I'm going to keep it as portable as possible - and 'colour' isn't in the 'C++ standard'. Same as size etc.

And I've decided to do my game at the weekends, other stuff at work and after work weekdays.

You said it'll be a basic DOS prompt. Does that mean it'll run as a DOS file, or it'll still be a windows type executable program in the style of a DOS prompt?

It means it will run as a console application, which is similar to DOS (which is the windows equililent of 'command promt').

It means that it'll be a program for DOS, running in Windows through the Command Prompt/Line (cmd.exe).

This is the nature of C++. To get windows etc you use widgets or the windows API - neither of which I wish to learn at this stage (although I have FLTK).

then why use C++? If you know VB, I would go for that, mainly because it'll be more widely used and because those who aren't familiar with a DOS envirnoment probably won't use it, for fear of actually having to learn something

Umm sorry if ive missed something but what is it you are actually making tron and what does it do?

Oh and 007, id honestly be surprissed if people were scared by DOS.
Im sure that whatever trons making hes doing it for practise and for his own personal use.

Oh and what compiler do you use?

I use the Dev C++ editor, which comes with CYGWIN and GC++/GCC AFAIK.

I haven't messed around with it too much, and having it means it's easier to port to Linux straight away.
Although I'll probably get the free M$ compiler somewhere down the line - it's always best practice to do so.

007Bond... Yeah - with one hand you WANT a stand-alone interpreter, then with the other you DON'T want a stand-alone. Make up your mind!
VB is NOT standalone, it needs NUMEROUS run-time files installed. You've been told before.

I am using C++ right now to learn it in one respect. In another I'm using it because it allows Quest to be ported to Linux.

This current project just check's ASL for syntactic error's and warns you... But while Quest tells you "too many {'s", I am going to try and have it so you can look in a certain 'block' (define room block for example) and perhaps even in action/command/whatever blocks.
Right now I'm starting on the actual error checking.

I know that this is an old topic, but will your interpreter run multiplayer games?

While on the subject, if alex didnt charge for a 1000 person server, and an unlimited amount of people could log on, exactly how many people would be able to log on, since most multiplayer games (non-quest games anyway) can only hold (about) 50 people at a time?
