QDK

27 Feb 2005, 10:46First off, I was just wondering, is an updated version of Quest/QDK coming out soon? And if so, what will be in the update? (What features?)
Also, is there some way to make older games in the archive work with Quest 353? Because some don't. So I opened a couple up with wordpad, and changed the code to say made with 353, just to see what would happen, and they worked better, but then objects wouldn't show up, and other things wouldn't function. For most of the games in the archive, it's not such a shame to not be able to play them, but if someone would come out with a good game, (which there are a few of, actually) it would be a waste of time spent making a game to not be able to use it with newer versions. That's just my opinion. --

27 Feb 2005, 11:07Quest should be backwards-compatible with the older games in the archive. If you could please tell me which ones don't work, I'll take a look into it.

28 Feb 2005, 08:51Actually, all of the old ones don't work. Not the "recently old" ones; Those work....just the ones that used the really really early versions of Quest. I'm not sure what exact version the problem starts with.....I'll check and re-post
UPDATE: OK, I just checked, and I know for sure that one called "Easy Money" doesn't work. It says Quest version 210. I'm not sure if there are also newer ones that don't work. I'll check that later.

28 Feb 2005, 09:21I think Easy Money was one that never worked. Don't know why Alex put it up

19 May 2005, 08:13Whenever I download a 2.x game, I make sure to open up the source in wordpad and do Edit... Replace and replace all instances of "~Internal" with "Internal". I think that works because of some problem with the procedures, Quest 3.x doesn't like the ~ in front. I've had almost no problems with 2.x games after editing them that way.
NOTE: I think the reason why changing the version causes objects not to show is because collectables are not used in 3.x. Quest is only backward compatible when the asl version is correct.

19 May 2005, 21:41Quest 3.x supports collectables if e.g. the ASL version in the file is set to 210. If the ASL version is set correctly, Quest should interpret it in exactly the same way as the version of Quest that the game was written for.
Again, if you find games which don't work correctly, please let me know and I can make the necessary fixes.

20 May 2005, 06:18Just to get the confusion out of the way, Quest is backward compatible, while QDK is not.
