New here. How long does it take to update my game?

I created a text game called 'Destiel story' I edited things offline on the Quest game maker thing, because I wanted to change some things I wrote from the original version. So I did that, clicked update game online. And it hasn't updated yet. I tried twice. It's been like 20 minutes, and i was just wondering how long it takes.

Also, I was looking for a way to DELETE my game, and repost it back up all edited and updated (In case this way was faster)

I was thinking about continuing to update it to add more ending choices and everything, but I was wondering if I did the update my game thing incorrectly?

Thanks,
Lexi

It should update immediately? If it doesn't, I have no clue. Was the original version created online?

To remove a game entirely and get rid of comments/ratings and post a "new" game, I think Alex might have to do that. You could save the updated file under a new name, and post it as a new game? But if it's only a matter of "faster", there should not be any time delay between publishing and updating.

I created it using the Quest thing. I had downloaded that, created the game there (offline). then uploaded it onto the site. I did that early this morning. it's still not categorized. But a few hours ago I decided i didn't like bits of what I wrote so i changed it, and tried to 'update' the game on the site, by updating the file i had saved with bits rewritten. it's still not updated. D: I've never made a game before, so idk how it all works. I just tried the updating thing again, and still nothing. The number of times it's been played, is all from me clicking it to see if it's been updated yet.

I'm going to ask a couple dumb questions. :)

1. Are you getting categorized confused with updated? Categorization happens when a moderator places it in a proper category. Updating successfully means you have replaced an old file with a new, changed file.
2. When you have changed your .aslx file (the one saved on your PC that you open offline in the editor), do you save it under the same name or have you saved it under a different name?
3. When you are playing the updated game, are you playing it online through the Quest website or offline on your PC through the editor?

When you upload a new file, as long as the file is uploaded successfully, there should be no delay when you update and play online.

Nope, I know the difference. lol. I am actually trying to update it, so the stuff I edited shows up. I was half asleep when I had to re-write half of the game because my computer crashed early this morning. So I ended up with a couple sentences I didn't like at all. And, was hoping to edit and update it.

I updated the file as it was, and resaved it. Tried clicking that one for the 'update your game' thing on the site, where you put the file in. That didn't work, so I resaved it with like one difference, and added a number to the end of it, so it is a different file name (Just to see if it would then upload properly...it didn't ) No updating Worked.

When I tried playing the updated version offline, on my computer it is edited and updated correctly. When I play it online, it's still always the first version I created. The one I don't want. (A couple parts seem somewhat insensitive and that's what I changed)

Either way, it will act like it's been updated online but then the file wont go through or something. Not sure what's going on.

I just tried to save the updated version and 'overwrite' the original file saved offline. Then tried the update again. and it's still the original version.. D: This is driving me batty. lol I had tried to start redoing the game by re-creating it using the online Quest thing. but it's different, for some options, colors etc. So I got fed up with it and deleted it. Just back to my same original problem, though.
Especially since you said it is supposed to update it right away.

Did you try updating online. Go to create. Press edit on your game . Make your changes. Go back to create. Press publish update on your game. That should work.

Well since I made it using the offline program I downloaded, the options aren't the same for editing. Basically the only thing I can edit is the description. As well as 'Upload a new file''

I've tried it repeatedly, trying to upload my edited version from my computer. Using the publish update ' thing as well, It doesn't work.

On my 'My games' Page, my game shows up under the 'published' tab. but the one to the left, the Edit tab, it just says "You have not created any games online yet"

Like I said earlier though, I tried to remake the game using the online version of the quest thing and the options are different than the offline one,and I didn't like how it was.

I have been experimenting with the UI and wanting to see how it looked online, so was updating my game perhaps a dozen times in an hour, and each time the change was instant.

You must be doing publish, and uploading a .quest file, otherwise the upload would complain. So you go to your game's page, and click on "Edit this listing", then click on "Upload new file" right? Then browse to the new file (might be worth checking the time stamp on the file that it is the updated version at this point), and click Upload. Hopefully at that point it says "File updated" and you can click on "View your updated game".

Is there anything different to that that you are seeing or doing?

It might be worthwhile closing Quest, then re-opening your game before doing publish. I have know recent changes not get saved, though that was in a library file, and I am grasping at straws here.

So, I edited it..and edited it. AND EDITED IT SOME MORE. Added all the scenes i wanted, pics, everything. saved it, then re-saved it. (A LOT) lol
I kept trying over and over to upload/edit it on the site. it kept not working. Finally I saved the game output file folder onto my desktop so i didn't have to search each time. I now have like 8 saved game files on my computer.. but after trying for the 4th time in a row just now..the correct file..FINALLY updated. FINALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY!! I have no idea how, and I really don't care at this point! XD
So my game is done. completely. uploaded. updated. wheee. still uncategorized, but i don't care about that. I know it will end up in romance anyway. lol

I have an end credits page on my game, where I thanked you guys. (I said thank you to those who helped me in the forum..that was you three. I would go back and put your names on there..but I'm too scared to try editing it and updating it again. lol)

So, thank you! -bows respectfully-

I had a similar experience a while back. I could not update. But suddenly it worked. Know how you feel.

I'm having the same issue right now. I've been playing around with the text colours of my game to try and make it a little more easy on the eye.
Mind you, i havn't worked on this project for something like 7 months. Maybe thats why? I'll keep trying though :)
