03 Jan 2005, 09:26I was thinking about this idea I had. I'm not sure how everyone would like it--which is why I'm bringing it up; to find out. I was thinking, maybe we could all make a game together. By that I mean that one person would start a game, and would then e-mail the asl file to the next person, who would add on a little more, and so on and so on. Now there would be a few difficulties; One of them being that each person would need to know about everything; Every status variable, every flag, etc. But I'm sure we could somehow work that out. Another problem would be time: Who has time to take on another project these days? I myself am quite busy in the real world, and in my QDK world too; I'm in middle of five QDK-related projects. (I love how I referred to it as the real world and the QDK world--QDK is like it's own little world to me, what with this forum and eveything lol
) But still, I could probably put something off a while to do this. It doesn't have to be now; We could do this anytime; Whenever is best for everyone. I don't even know what the game would be about. I just thought it would be fun because we could all incorporate what we think is fun into the game. Sooooo......Ideas? Opinions?

03 Jan 2005, 20:02You didn't leave much choice. Definitely, definitely not, think about?
It sounds like an interesting idea but I had to mark 'think about'
What would get confusing and time consuming is that different people take different lengths of time in creating a game. Different people have better spelling and grammar habits than others. If this were to work, I believe that only the people who have made halfway decent games before should participate.
I personally am still in the 'I don't know' category about if I would participate. Another problem would be, one person starts the game and the second or third person starts changing too many things so by the time the game is complete, the original creator cannot enjoy what he/she added to begin with.
Ok, so I'm thinking too deeply about it... carry on...

03 Jan 2005, 21:39When I started reading this - I got the "the greatest story ever told" series in Flash format.
Each artist adds their own bit (it was 30 seconds I think) and then passes it on. Each "bit" is individual, so instead of saying "I've got these variables and what-not", just set it up so everyone adds to the end and uses whatever they put in - not someone else's.

04 Jan 2005, 22:28Yeah, sorry about that. I shoulda made better options. I guess I just wanted the general opinion. CW, I guess that would probably work better; Just adding on to the end of the previous person's game, other than trying to find out all the other person's coding and everything. Also, Steve, aboutYou didn't leave much choice. Definitely, definitely not, think about?
I guess maybe we could do something like this: (Not exactly this GAME, but this IDEA.) Let's say we were making a game about a person going to school. So one person would make it, and it would start off with "According to Steve, getting to school was very hard..." and you would make the first part. Then let's say you get to school, and the next person, say CW would take over. And it would say, "CW knew that he had to make it in time for class...etc" In other words, it would say where each person wrote their part, thereby making each "part" of the game your own. I really hope what I just wrote makes sense; Right now I am so tired that I barely even know what I wrote. lol.Another problem would be, one person starts the game and the second or third person starts changing too many things so by the time the game is complete, the original creator cannot enjoy what he/she added to begin with.

05 Jan 2005, 22:51No need for names... You could have different colours if you wished...
Also the author of that part of the game would have total control over what happened..
So for example, one would write the way they went to a school... Giving the second programmer details about where they have arrived (and which room it is).
The second programmer takes that, and can then add about how they grabbed this top-secret vial from the science teacher and ran out to a hidden rocket ship outside and started the countdown by accident. The third could add how you escaped and watched it fail to launch while you got into your flying car and had a death-match race with your arch-rival from another school around the high-rise towers in an 8-shape. etc...
That's the way you would recognise the different people - by their style and their subject.

11 Jan 2005, 01:24Not that this is a bad idea, but I think this is the third time someone has suggested this type of game, and it's been rejected both times before. However, this type of game might just work. Just thinking about it, I reckon it's the only way that we're gonna get a more then average game around here. At least it will be longer then average. However, we need a set time limit for each person to write their part in the game, and there would have to be rules. There are major problems with this idea though, none of which i'm going to discuss now, as my time is running out on the computer (I'm not even supposed to be on here, catching up on a hundred posts is madness!)

02 Feb 2005, 07:39It's exactly as old as the one in the chat forum (11'th of Jan was the last posting in both), that you replied to.
Let him just support the cause and go on your way.

2. Who the hell are you to ask who the hell he is?
I don't quite remember anyone making you the forum moderator. I don't see why you feel the need to annoy guests making polite comments. Geez.
