Create-A-Room

19 Dec 2004, 10:38Okay I have one question before I get to my real question---How long does it usually take people to create a game? Cause I started mine on Nov. 29, and I've barely done anything. (Well, I've done a little, but not nearly enough. That might be because I don't program every day, not to mention for the past week, but even if I would program every day, I have a feeling that I still wouldn't be nearly done. My other question is, that using QDK, if, lets say I make it so that if someone types in "create room," a room is created. That room doesn't show up in the list of rooms, so how do I create a general description, compass points, and many other things? Thanks---Ebayfan414

21 Dec 2004, 20:44I don't know if that's possible in this version of ASL, but from memory it should be. Take a look at the Quest documentation.
And yes, I'm back after my ten-day holiday! (But if you want to talk about that, go to the Games and Chat forum)

22 Dec 2004, 09:52It is possible - but not really recomended.
Because you need to save the game and send the saved file along with the game....
... Although thinking about that - it's a VERY crafty way to send a file without actually giving the player any way to read the rooms etc...

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. How would I get to the room made with a "create room" command and customize it? Also, if it's so complicated to customize, I'm not really sure I even understand the purpose of the command...why use it?

26 Dec 2004, 14:35It's not hard to customise... And really it's for dynamic room creation.
Say you wish to dynamically create rooms through a MUD. That way you can have your server going while you create more of the world - instead of constanty shutting down then re-loading.
Or if you want to have a room suddenly 'add-on' the the end of the current room, instead of hard-coding loads of if's, and changing the rooms description - all you need is to create a room to the north.
