Simple ways to make my Gamebook more of an "experience"?

08 Feb 2016, 17:01Hey folks, hopefully I'm posting this in the right place.
I'm nearing the end of my first Gamebook, a project I've been working on for many months. I don't really know any code, but I've used flags, counters, etc to make the story into as much of a "game" as possible, with a primitive inventory system, a couple simple puzzles, stuff like that. Anyway, now I'd like to up the game's visual flair. Are there any common yet effective tips or techniques you guys employ? Is there any way to change a page's background to a specific image? At present I have nothing but white text on a black background. Would you recommend frequent sound effects?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This is my first experience using Quest, and it's been a lot of fun.
Thanks!

08 Feb 2016, 18:20I'm not sure if this stuff will work with the GameBook version (remember that the GameBook has less/limited features than the Text Adeventure version: if you want the full features/capabilities of quest, you need to use the Text Adventure, and make it seem like a GameBook version: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=4772 ):
(I, myself, don't have much experience with all of this graphical and/or user interface stuff yet, thus it's too "technical/confusing" at the moment for me, and maybe you too, as it involves using code, but here it is none-the-less, in case you can understand and use it, again if it works with the GameBook version)
