It's just noise, don't do it.

It also makes it hard to tell when something has or hasn't been answered (or is in progress). I'm more likely to look at a thread with 0 responses than one with some.

When is a bump not a bump?

What do we do if we suspect our thread has been missed and is slipping away into the abyss of the second page?

Well, for one thing, replying and putting the word "bump" in the reply would probably not be a good thing. :) I think if you ask a question and there are no responses, asking in a follow up reply one more time ("Does anyone have any thoughts on this?" sort of thing) would be appropriate, just to make sure people saw it. But after that, at that point, I'd assume people don't have an answer and just leave it at that.

I typically don't like to reply "I don't have an answer" unless I have something that might be part of an answer. Otherwise, you could end up with a thread with a bunch of responses with people going "No idea", "Nope, me neither", "Nada here, bucko", and it becomes hard to tell which threads have answers or not. So I think after one follow up to poke one more time, if people haven't responded, it's quite likely there's no answer forthcoming, and additional queries would probably start to get annoying.

Just my take. :)

Also, if anyone wants to bump *me*, just send me a PM.

Is anyone else really tempted to bump this thread?
