Ancient newbie with two questions
Davidmarks
30 Dec 2014, 01:21Please forgive what may well be silly questions. I am trying to write an adventure which maps the village I live in to provide some local fun, so...
1. Can I produce a self contained disc or memory stick or sd card from which the game can be played (or a downloadable package.)
2. In an attempt to find the answer to the above I have written a short excerpt which seems to work OK and have then tried using the PUBLISH command. It appears to be producing a file with my game name and a quest extension. But I can find no trace of this file on my system. Looked in the output file ... nothing. Browsed to documents and tried saving it there ... nothing ! I have a lurking feeling that I am doing something very daft . Could some kind soul put me out of my misery before matron confiscates my computer .... Thanks

30 Dec 2014, 03:48Strange, I just tested it out and it saved it right where I told it. Have you tried running a search for the file name on your computer?

30 Dec 2014, 09:33There was an output directory, but nothing in it ! and I did a search and couldn't find it. I was working on a laptop (surface) running windows 8 which I am not very happy with. I will download Quest to this computer and copy the game ove and report back !

30 Dec 2014, 09:52Thanks folks . It works OK on the desktop so it's probably something to do with the wretched windows 8 thingy ! My current thinking is to enable players to explore or village (with some photographs of locations and object) add a few mythical tunnels etc with some problems to solve (probably about village history) maybe a spot of time travel (I have old photos) . Looking at the software available it seems that Quest is the way to go . Comments from the more experienced (which means all of you ! ) would be appreciated ..Thanks again

30 Dec 2014, 10:51When it successfully publishes, it should pop open the output folder and show you the file. If that didn't happen, then perhaps it failed silently for some reason. (Probably not too helpful, but I do know when I'm publishing a lot, I end up with all these open folders.
