more colours
GameBoy
01 Sept 2004, 04:37more colours, please! There just isn't enough. Yellow doesn't go over white, and blue and red don't go very well with black. If there was more combination in colours, we could have more variety in our games, and have it look better.

01 Sept 2004, 08:12I agree. The next version of Quest should be skinnable and have colour schemes.

01 Sept 2004, 11:59You can use RRGGBB hex values for background and foreground tags and script, by prefixing them with &H. e.g.
will change the background to red.
But I agree that more flexible and advanced formatting is required. HTML-style formatting tags has been on my "to do" list for a number of years now...
background <&HFF0000>

01 Sept 2004, 14:16ahha, so adding...
and putting that in the startscript would make the main foreground colour green?
it's not just the forground colour i want changing though, every so often i might want a unique colour for a message.

01 Sept 2004, 15:22I think any changes to the foreground colour during a game won't affect text that has already been printed, so if you wanted you could do this:
No idea what that looks like as I'm not at a machine with Quest on it at the moment, but I think it should work.
foreground <&H0080FF>
msg <Lots |xn>
foreground <&H8080FF>
msg <of |xn>
foreground <&HFF0080>
msg <pretty |xn>
foreground <&H80FF00>
msg <colours>
foreground <black>
No idea what that looks like as I'm not at a machine with Quest on it at the moment, but I think it should work.

02 Sept 2004, 10:26then i think this should definately be a priority feature
davidw
02 Sept 2004, 12:00I wouldn't have thought colours should be a priority. Shouldn't that apply to things more useful in writing a game?

05 Sept 2004, 11:00Maybe color schemes for the display window would go well, like a standard, which is black text, white bg, and then reverse, which is black bg, white text. Just a couple of examples.
