Newbie question about objects and sub-objects

27 Dec 2013, 09:10Hi all, I hope you have had a nice Christmas?
I have created an object - a signpost - in the first location of my game. I have created a "sub-object" - the arms - defining the signpost as the parent object, as well as four separate objects for the north, south, east and west arms, also defining the signpost as the parent object.
When I play the game I can see the signpost and examine it, but when I try to examine the arms or the individual arms I get "I can't see that!"
What have I done wrong.
Game file attached.
Thanks.

27 Dec 2013, 10:27I was able to get it to work more or less by making the signpost a container, and then setting it to "surface". This made all the arms show up in the room description and in the "Places and Objects" pane (which is probably not desirable), so I then went to each arm (and "arms") and set them all to "Scenery". That way, you can "x" them, but they don't show up in any lists.
(I could post the file back again, but I have the Quest 5.5 beta. If you have that as well, then I'll attach the file, if you still need it after the above.)

27 Dec 2013, 11:14Hi jaynabonne,
I have fixed this by moving the "sub-objects" to the crossroads location and defining them as scenery objects.
Thanks for replying.

27 Dec 2013, 11:22That's a simpler solution. I'm glad it worked for you.
