27 Jul 2003, 19:14Hi Alex
A new version of Quest is always fun, downloaded 3.5 Pro beta & played with the new bits - so far so good
Particularly interested in the ability to open games from a zip - this is cool as it lets us bundle games with images sounds etc, but as far as I can see, still doesn't let us protect the viewing of those which is a pity.
Ideally I think we need a zip of resource files that can be password protected - and the password coded into the calling game so that things can only be 'got at' during a game
Just a thought.

27 Jul 2003, 20:15Indeed, and this is still a planned feature! It should make it into the release version of Quest 3.5 hopefully. I've released the beta without it for now as I've added quite a lot of things to version 3.5 already and I didn't want to hold off unleashing them for any longer
I know you've been after the resources feature for a while so rest assured I will be implementing it very soon.

27 Jul 2003, 20:18One very minor point I've just noticed in VERSIONS.TXT is a couple of references to ASL 320, which should of course read ASL 350.

27 Jul 2003, 21:30First bug?
Although it doesn't matter a whole lot to me, I installed the later MS text to speech engine from the Quest website onto my Win98se box. It tests OK and "Microsoft Mary" drones as expected when tested from the control panel.
However $speechenabled$ returns 0 in Quest 3.5 beta and (unsurprisingly) speech output using "speak" does not work.
Just thought you ought to know - Oh and I realised the ASL version ought to be 350 as that is what QDK outputs.

27 Jul 2003, 21:38D'oh! (Dope-slaps forehead)
Text to speech actually works just fine when one turns it on in Quest options...
It's late, I'm tired, I've had a hard day (please add your preferred excuse for numbskull syndrome here)

28 Jul 2003, 17:18I think I should probably make "Enable speech" ON by default anyway - it's only really "Speak all text" that should sensibly be off by default I think.

29 Jul 2003, 00:40I posted a suggestion in the questnet section, was wondering if alex gave it any thought.
Here it is for ease of reading...

I'm thinking a #quest.players# or a #quest.formatplayers# similar to the built in variables for objects. While it is possible to use ASL to sort through the variables and figure out player or object using properties, these variables would probably make it much easier. Probably not too hard to implement considering that there is a set name(or name pattern) for player objects.
Just an idea.
