walkthrough

throughout any game you can always type in (HELP) to get various help messages. What about typing in a (WALKTHROUGH) command to get the actual walkthrough for that location if you really are desperate to solve a situation in there. Then it's always at hand if you really want it. would this catch on? Just a thought, Terry

But, yes, as far as I know, players like to be able to get "un-stuck" if they just can't get past something.

21 Jan 2013, 18:25What I meant was: many games incorporate a "hint" system within the game, where you can type "hint", and it will offer some help based on where you are (your current context) and/or on the current puzzle. Sometimes, if the game is well-written enough, each time you type hint, it will give you a deeper level of hint. The initial hints may be general or vague, but finally it will just tell you flat out what to do. But if you go to a different place in the game or are at a later point, you'll get different hints. That's what I meant by "context-specific".

21 Jan 2013, 18:53I understood what you meant I was just wondering whether or not to build an actual Walkthrough command in at the relevant locations. Say if you are stuck on how to get out of a room and you typed in (walkthrough) then the answers would follow like ( get key, unlock door, open door, go out). But only if you are desperate enough to use this route. I understand about the hints and it's a great idea to varying degrees right up to the ultimate answer. It's just me being thick!
