'Bug' in MaDbRiT's Types Library?

02 Feb 2004, 07:09I'm really loving the flexibility and level of detail provided by Mr. bRiT's library, and have to thank him for letting us use it! But I have come across what I think could be a minor bug - or maybe just a blank-spot in my brain - you decide.
For a detail hound like me, it's a great to have the ability to set an object as scenery without it appearing in the 'You can see' descriptions - although trying to anticipate what players will want to look at is another matter altogether
I have recently discovered that if one has a regular, visible object and 'scenery' objects in a room, the default object prefix is incorrect. Although there may be four or five 'scenery' objects, they will not appear in the room description.
However, if there is also a visible object, the prefix is 'There are [visible object] here.' instead of referring only to the item with which the player can interact, ie. 'There is [visible object] here.'
I'm sure there's a way around this, using prefixes etc. but I'm still working the system out.
But apart from this small 'kink', I've found the library hugely helpful, and thank you for your efforts!

This is exactly the right place to post questions about 'typelib', I think I specifically ask for questions here in what passes for a manual
The 'There are' prefix is indeed a bug, a hangover from early code that sneaked through the net. Do you have the latest version of typelib from my website, I uploaded a fix for this some time ago - or at least I THINK I uploaded it, maybe I just sent it to the person who reported the bug originally, I've kind of lost track to be honest.
Whatever, there is a 'fixed' version somewhere on my development PC, although it is about to be replaced with the MK3 (much improved) version.

I just downloaded the zipfile of 'typelib.qlb' from my own website and it contains the mid 2002 beta version...
D'oH! The last (bugfix) version of typelib.qlb that was distributed was release 1.009, dated september 2003. I think my webserver has been 'restored' from a really old backup or something odd like that, for it to be SO out of date.
Anyways, tomorrow it looks like I have to 'pull and rebuild' my website in total, so probably not worth uploading 1.009 at present. So Gelfae, if you want a copy before the new website is done (e.t.a. God only knows), drop me an e-mail.

03 Feb 2004, 00:06...talk about a can of worms. As someone with coding experience, I figured something like that would be an 'easy fix' tweak to your lib. And now it's turned into a website overhaul!
I've had Quest for the sum total of six days now, and got the type library a few days ago, so it's the 'current' version (as considered by the website at least) I have. But thanks for the response, and sure, I'll drop you an email.

It was (along with several other bug-fixes) very straightforward to fix typelib - quite why my web presence got zapped I don't actually know and is certainly unrelated - just inconvenient. On the bright side the web-site really DID need an overhaul anyway...
Welcome to Quest! Hope you 'take to' the system and have fun with it.
Less said about the current-ness of my website the better it seems...
