Quest translations

Hi everyone

I'm interested in facilitating the translation of Quest games into multiple languages. To do this, I created a small Java application that extracts texts embedded in the game into several files. Once translated those files, the application allows you to mix them again getting the game translated.

The interesting thing would be that Quest had already separated into two layers: one for the code; and a second one with the language-dependent messages. As this is not so, my application is an attempt to recreate that situation. Translating a Quest game is not only translate the messages because Quest system was not intended to be multilingual internally and it requires modifications to the code once the text are translated.

I've done some tests with a complex game that get me Alex, but I have not received permission from the author to do the translation, so I turn to the community Quest to request source codes of Quest games to test my extract/merge program of messages.

Also, I would be interested to focus on a specific game on which debugging the translation and get a full-finished translated game. I may need the cooperation of the author in the translation process on specific implementation details of the game. I would need the author permission to publish the source code together with the translated version (Spanish initially, but surely also Esperanto).

My username in Quest is Francisco and forta in the Quest forum.

Quest is an excelent software... but it would be even better if it used the mencioned two layers design!

Thanks for you attention!

Francisco

I would be willing to have you translate my game Sleuth, but it's only about 90% complete at this point (I've been slacking off.) It's probably better to wait until everything has been finally added into the game so it only needs to be translated once. I'll try to get that done this week. It will be an interesting challenge as there is a LOT of randomization in the game, from objects, to room descriptions and dialog. :)

Hi Francisco, I'm willing to colaborate as well, as soon as i have a finished game en english. I created a game in spanish, a translation version of an old game and I found very interesting things. So, im curious, if you translated automatically with your tools which quest platform will be using the translated version, the spanish or the english one? I asking because of the different grammar structure.

Hi m4u!

My tools is just a helper who extracts texts and re-merge them after their translation. There are a lot of stuff that must be done manually, but the tool can save hours of job, I hope!

My mother tonge is Spanish, it would be a pleasure colaborate with you!
