Object Usage

Me again...

I have read the help file on object types, but this doesn't quite make sense to me. I'm trying to go to a lake of water, fill a canteen, then drink from the canteen later. How do I put water in the canteen without taking the lake with me? Does that make sense?

I created an object type (with QDK) of Drinkable. But I don't understand the part in the help guide describing Actions (where exactly to put what).

I found a sample game in the downloads that references a drinking glass being emptied. I'll read that and try to figure out how to deplete the water from the canteen. But, if anyone wants to just show me...

Thanks in advance for the advice. I am reading the references as I go, and I don't plan to ask newbie questions forever. But, I really do *appreciate* the jumpstart!

You could always "cheat".

Create two canteens: one empty, one full. When you fill the empty canteen, take it away from the player and give him the full one. Likewise, when you empty the full canteen, take it away and give him the empty one.

use Al's typelib library and make the canteen a container. Create an object that's unavaliable called water that's containable. Then use a custom command called fill canteen. Then reveal the water object and put it in the canteen.

I'm not sure if this would work having never really used Al's typelib library(I haven't needed it) but from what I have read it should work

Thanks for the advice.

Is there any recommended reading for learning the tricks? The help file is a nice reference, but a tutorial or samples or how-to would sure be nice. Of course, this forum is a great source of help. But I don't want to abuse it by asking stuff I should be able to figure out.

There isn't any reccomended reading other then the help file that I know about

BTW, the reason this forum is here is so that anyone who wants to can ask questions about Quest development. The Games & Chat forum is for just about anything. Although the most common things you'll find on there are Visual Basic Questions and other miscellaneous crap
