Allowing remote user to connect to my machine

I've set up a demo of 6 rooms using the Lite version of the software (I'm assuming that allows remote connections). I gave a friend my IP address, set WinXP Firewall to allow Questnet through on port 10001. I can connect to my Questnet instance locally but she cant get to me. Didnt work with Telnet adapter either and I checked that was enabled too. We were on MSN so I was able to check my IP and help with her settings.

Am I missing anything? Do I need to specify anything in the game itself to allow this? She got 'could not connect to remote host' on telnet and no error at all using Quest - it just hung there trying to connect.

Do you connect to the internet through a router? You may need to configure that so it forwards port 10001 to your machine.

I have set the BT hub so that it allows port 10001 to come into port 10001 on my machine and added this port to my XP firewall exceptions but still no luck. I can connect to my own server using the IP address (rather than localhost) but no one else can.

OK, so if you think of the steps, then try to work backwards:

You can connect locally (application works).

Do you have another computer able to connect to your BT hub ?
If so, use the ip address of your questnet computer and connect "locally" (by locally it means this: you have 2 computers, both can talk to each other over an internal network).

If this works you KNOW it's not ANY firewall issues on your computer.

Also, are you using the correct IP (the one shown as "wan" or "internet IP" on your BT hub admin page?
Make sure you do check this IP as it can change over time.
