Quest 3.5 won't play ASL 2.x??

25 Nov 2003, 22:30Why don't any games coded in pre-3.0 ASL work in Quest 3.5? I thought it was backwards-compatible. The variables don't work and you cannot take/use/say. I'm mentioning this because it says in the manual that Quest is backwards-compatible. I wanted to clarify this.

25 Nov 2003, 22:46Are you sure the games you're playing actually support taking, using and speaking to whatever it is you're trying to take, use or speak to? I've just loaded up Quest 3.5 with The Adventures of Koww the Magician - a game coded for Quest 2.0 - and it plays fine.

26 Nov 2003, 21:26I was using my old games (Earthquake, ugh) and some other less-than-average game from the archives. I think I tried a quest 1.x as well.

27 Nov 2003, 14:21Hmm, there aren't any Quest 1.x games in the archive... My guess is they probably don't implement the basic things that they should, like giving descriptions to objects. A quick look at the ASL code should let you see if they're badly designed games or not.

27 Nov 2003, 18:00its backwards compatible because im assuming things have been ADDED to the program, and nothing has been changed, therefore there is no reason why anything shouldnt work.

27 Nov 2003, 22:01I know that. I just arrived at the conclusion I did because the games I tried didn't work. They work in the old quest but not the new one.
