Quest learning curve...

02 Feb 2009, 10:35Hello,
I have recently purchased Quest Pro and finished the PDF tutorial. So far I like it very much. I am also interested in learning Inform and TADS, so my questions are: what is the learning curve for the latter two? How difficult is it to learn Inform compared to Quest Pro and do you need prior knowledge in a programming language in order to understand TADS?

02 Feb 2009, 14:04There is definitely a steeper learning curve to TADS and Inform. Prior knowledge in programming languages is not needed, but the mindset associated with it will help.
On the other hand, TADS and Inform are far more powerful and more consistent.
(In TADS & Inform, save/restore/undo just plain work; in Quest, save & restore are buggy, while undo is completely absent.)

02 Feb 2009, 16:04TADS has a steeper learning curve then Quest pro but I Think Quest pro can do just about
anything TADS can and quicker since Quest pro is easier to get into.

02 Feb 2009, 18:07Okay then, Redsun: How much of Museum of Inform / Museum of TADS do?
Museum of Inform source: http://ifarchive.giga.or.at/if-archive/ ... Museum.inf
Older compiled release: http://ifarchive.giga.or.at/if-archive/ ... /Museum.z5
And I think that here is the Museum of TADS source: http://ifarchive.wurb.com/if-archive/pr ... inform.zip

02 Feb 2009, 18:36I'm referring to Quest pro. I'm not going to act like I know another system when I don't.

02 Feb 2009, 19:49Sorry, slight mistype. That should have been "Okay then, Redsun: How much of Museum of Inform / Museum of TADS can Quest do?"

02 Feb 2009, 19:53Honestly I don't know, but I do know It's harder to get into TADS then it
is to get into Quest pro because quest pro has QDK, I dabbled with TADS before.

Rather than asking about learning curves, you should check out a few games with each system to see what others who use that systems are capable of doing with it. If a system only produces bad games, then it's irrelevant what the learning curve for it is.
