Some 5 digit Element Not Found Error

18 Aug 2007, 10:34I click on a Conditional in the Script Edit Screen and a new bracket is added. I click again and another bracket is added. I click again, then some Element Error... then bye bye QDK and all of my new script.

20 Aug 2007, 19:39Is this where you are seeing two brackets instead of one when viewing your script (sometimes as many as three)?
I have encountered that problem and to the best of my knowledge it happens when you copy one script and then hit O.K. instead of Cancel to go paste it somewhere else.
Always cancel out when you copy script to paste somewhere else and you will be fine. If you have already created the sinister double or triple brackets you must recode that script before it is too late.
If that is not your problem than disregard all of this because it will be of no use to you at all.
Good Luck,
Dr. Froth

21 Aug 2007, 22:25Hey Froth,
No. It'll happen to a script that I have just created. I'm in the habit of not pressing the Edit button, but trying to double-click on the script line itself. Usually happenes when I'm in a rush. I see the line and think... ok, click on it, open it up, edit it, without thinking about the Edit button. That's when it occurs. But I can get it to reduce down to a single bracket sometimes if I open up the script with the edit button and ok it... then when it goes back to the screen where the script is displayed in the top window, it'll be back to one bracket... but sometimes the evil Element Error will kill my changes.
By the way, I remember you speaking about a huge game where evey object was described... any progress? If so, could you please write it up in the Quest Games forum?

22 Aug 2007, 00:03There has been quite a bit of progress on "Gathered in Darkness."
In fact the game got so big that Alex had to make me a couple of special patches to allow Quest and QDK to even run it. It seems that I surpassed anything attempted before on size (and considering that this is a single player adventure...that is pretty darn big). Everyone will have to download a new version of quest just to play it.
The game is set up in chapters (nine of them) and so I have set it up to enter it in the IF comp and have it judged on the first 3 chapters (like a prequel or something). That should keep things under the two hour time limit.
I have finished coding the entire story, and the objects for every room (all 200+). The only thing I am doing now is working on the player journal (which updates as you go along) and the in-game hint system. After that I am done.
I am confident that I will make the uploading deadline for the comp. (As long as I quit crashing the program due to size... The notepad file alone is sitting at close to 2500kb right now.)

22 Aug 2007, 00:19This topic about our games should be in QUEST GAMES. I've responded there in a new post title.
