12 Aug 2006, 20:12Well, I've finally taken the plunged and joined up - greetings to everyone:) I basically wanna learn ASL and get to grips with QDK to finally write a MUD that I've been dreaming of for the past couple of years, but have never done anything about...
Anyways - can I ask a couple of newbie questions? First, is there anywhere that has any decent tutorials, particularly relating to MUDS? I'm interested in anything to do with writing players stats, skills, magic - the kind of thing you find in a typical MUD. I'm a relative (but not total) novice with regards to programming. Secondly, are there any other good sources of resources (try saying that after a few pints) out there for Quest, in terms of developing? Script libraries and the like?
Thanks for your time, and once again - hello!

12 Aug 2006, 20:49Unfortunately this is the main 'resource' - although it's a damn fine one.
There's a new resource which has recently been started by Zelimos.. I hope it'll flourish into something at least half usable.
First, the Quest help file would be good to have a quick look through - although no need to read fully or understand all of it at first.
Then post questions you have in here so we can help you.
Have a good stay.

12 Aug 2006, 22:05That's what I thought - I'll have a dig around, see what I can find.
One last thing - has anyone ever written a fully realised MUD using ASL before? One with an actual, regular player base? If so, can you point me in the general direction?
Thanks:)

Nobody has released a MUD at all, to be honest. This is just a wild guess, but arn't you from Nightmist?
As for my tutorial website, I have been busy lately, I'm in Wales with my Dad at the moment for a few days, but Quest isn't going anywhere, and I've been thinking about holding back the development of the website until 4.0 is released, so that I can start addings things which are up-to-date with the software, since 4.0 will be a major release.
The link is in my signature anyhow.

13 Aug 2006, 09:47Nope, I'm not from Nightmist - never heard of it until now. Already checked out yor site, Zel - the links to the tutorials didn't seem to work?
I can't believe no one has developed a MUD with this software. How soon til 4.0 is released? Any info about it floating around?

13 Aug 2006, 10:42You get that alot with Zel's webpages - don't worry.
And no real guesstimate about when Q4 will be out.

Quiet you

I might do some very simple games like a fruit machine or something, and add the script to the scripts section. Very basic stuff to begin with just to get the player learning how to use variables and commands.

13 Aug 2006, 19:36Zel, anything along those lines would be invaluable to someone like me, and to many others I'm sure.
And to echo what Witch said - the site does indeed look great:)

The aim of the "game" here is to provide the answers/resources for what the users of Quest/QDK need. All you have to do is ask, suggest, and I'll try and provide a section related to your needs.

24 Aug 2006, 13:02I'm in the proces of making a huge WUD for quest, but progress i slow - you'd be amazed how much work it is, as quest doesn't have much MUD-y stuff built-in and so I'm having to hand code everything myself. Quest 4.0 would really help me in this, program faster Alex!
Oh if anyone would like to help me in making my ASL MUD, just ask.
