Pictures & Sound

05 May 2006, 15:36I would like to clerify something in regards to Pictures and Sounds, you cannot show a picture or play a sound file if you are hosting a multi-player game?
Thanks for the help.

01 Sept 2006, 05:17Unlike the Quest Application, where you run the game files from YOUR computer, and Quest handles everything...
In this case QuestNet handles the ASL file from the hosters computer, and the Quest Application only connects to the QuestNet server.
For something like this to be possible (And I know it's been discussed before), you'd have to download all the necessary sound and graphics to a specific folder on your computer, but to be honest I don't really want to go into how this would work. hehe
Just so you know, I've answered old posts for the benefit of those who still seek these answers

I don't mean to be rude or anything, but... THAT'S NOT FUNNY!
I think it's rather dull that Alex Warren or any of the other Quest editers never included pictures and sound effects as a new feature in Quest 4.0.
Did you guys ever think that people in households have more than one computer, with a network neighborhood to boot, and would like to play a game they edited together, with all the benefits of the single player mode?
Is this too much to ask?
Oh well... I know y'all are very busy... and I'm sure Quest is not the essence of your lives (if you sympathise with my grammer)...

24 Feb 2007, 02:04I don't see why downloading graphics on the fly (with possible filesize/dimension limits) wouldn't be possible..
Sounds (ala MP3 files) may take quite a bit longer to download, and present some problems.
I used to know about this text-MUD program which would allow a server to host pictures/midi sounds and download them in certain rooms.. I can't remember the prog's name though, and the MUD was very simple and stopped after a few weeks.

24 Feb 2007, 21:16Downloading to a media folder should work fine except in Script: Other: Run an external File: the Not active checkbox is working in reverse for sounds and not at all for pictures. When checked, it is supposed to keep the focus on the Quest window but the opposite is true.

27 Feb 2007, 11:51Pictures and sound for QuestNet games is a step closer now with the web-based interface.
If you take a look at http://www.textadventures.co.uk, all the pictures and sounds for the single-player games are sent over the web. Because QuestNet Server uses the same protocol, that means adding pictures and sounds to QuestNet games will be possible. All that's left is to get Quest to be able to fetch from the web in the same way the web-based client can. This is on the "to do" list.

28 Feb 2007, 14:17Sweet..... Can't wait! Just asking, it'll be able to download sound/music/pictures as needed by the game and run them? If the file is big will there be lag? Could you make an optional feature to download all the extra files and then tell quest (the actual program) where you put them? Like 'c://program files/quest/questnet files/(game name)/'? Some people may prefer that...
