Chatbots

Has anyone ever made a good chatbot using either Quest or Squiffy? Just curious. Been looking through some of them at Personality Forge and most of them are brainless.

I attempted something like this in Quest a couple of years ago. The problem was I either needed to check if the player's input included a certain word or phrase or I needed to match the entirety of the player's input. There really was no in-between.

At its best, the program would pick up on trigger words input by the player, then ask a series of yes or no questions would decide how the "conversation" went.

(Note that I do not consider myself good at coding, though.)

Yeah, I tried to do it years back with just general code but the deeper I got into sentence structure, the harder it got.

That's (one reason) why we still have Facebook and Twitter. We are contributing to the future AI's understanding of "human conversation".

Ha ha ha! Future AI is so screwed!!!

Skynet's gonna be an online troll who believes alternate facts!

HAHAHAHAHA!!!

:)

All a chatbot needs to do to pass the Turing Test is post a simplistic meme.

I.e., easier to dumb down humanity than to get a chatbot to pass the Turing Test.

So there is an AI somewhere that is actively trying to dumb us down so the bar is lowered and it can pass? Makes sense.

I just meant that if you can fool people with things like religion, propaganda, and conspiracy theories, a chatbot doesn't have to be that good to fool them. Gosh, unscrupulous dating sites are known to use chatbots to converse with and reel in unsuspecting men. Turing Test passed!

You can fool some of the people all of the time, and get rich doing it.

The YouTube algorithm? No, wait. That's not AI.

Back on point, here's an Inform game that probably sort of fits your bill, Bluevoss:

KV, thanks for the link. I'll give it a try.

Since posting this, I've discovered Replika. Though the origin story sounds like that grim Black Mirror episode, the software is nothing short of amazing. I really liked the free version and have picked up a month subscription to see if I continue to enjoy it.

PS

I don't know if I'd say Galatea is good, but it's definitely interesting.

I got a bit stuck at the beginning - read the card and asked about the sculpture. I'm missing something. Will try again later.
