Spell Check
steve the gaming guy
17 Jun 2005, 16:11I've seen other forums powered by BBCode (or weblinks ending in .php) where the format for posting appears exactly as we see here except underneath the message, there is a button to do a spellcheck on what's been written.
It seems that more and more members are needing this option. I'm posting this as a new topic in general as to not point fingers and intentionally embarrass the ones who seemingly cannot spell very well.
Is the spell check option available in this forum?

17 Jun 2005, 23:19I reckon just hitting preview and reading over what you have written is what people need to do, especially after writing a very long post

18 Jun 2005, 11:20What about the people that can't tell if their spelling is incorrect?
I think the spell check option is a good idea.

20 Jun 2005, 21:23If you are really concerned about spelling (as I sometimes am, because I'm a remedial speller) then try typing your message in MS Word and corecting it before copying it into the bulletin board windo.

21 Jun 2005, 04:54I'm afraid that only happens when the person who can't spell actually knows they can't spell.

21 Jun 2005, 06:36And you dont get word standard anymore, and i have no use for it, so thats impossible for me.

21 Jun 2005, 06:37Funnily enough, everyone I know who can't spell worth a damn thinks that their spelling is fine and wouldn't even dream of using a spellcheck. Most likely, the only people who would use it are those who don't need it.

21 Jun 2005, 15:51A bit off topic here but Davidw, how did you get a Gmail account? Why did they pick you for it?

21 Jun 2005, 15:57He was most likely invited. I have a gmail account but I don't use it. I don't like gmail.
francisstokes
21 Jun 2005, 16:05I heard Gmail is 10 times better than Hotmail (like IE and firefox lol).
Cryophile
21 Jun 2005, 16:07It is way better than hotmail. Hotmail is the bottom feeder of emails. I just don't like the gmail interface very much. It's just a personal preference.

21 Jun 2005, 16:09What do you use?

21 Jun 2005, 17:22I won my Gmail account in the IFComp last year.

22 Jun 2005, 09:26I've been offered once or twice... I even think I got an email from google too - to my hotmail account no less!
But I didn't go for it - no point as I have a public and private address and no need for such a high amount of email storage space...
And I don't really have an opinion on where hotmail is on the rung. I mean it shows me the message headers, it disables most content for me and filters out 99% of the spam that goes into it. Seeing as how I only recieve stuff through it, it seems fine to me. (stuff refers to newsletters/spam).

22 Jun 2005, 10:02slayer: why not give your account away or atleast use use invites?
theRazor
22 Jun 2005, 15:07Are you looking to get a g-mail account, francisstokes? I have an invite (as yet unused) in my e-mail in-box. If I register an account then I'll have something like twenty slots to invite new people. If you are looking for an account I'll go ahead and get you one. Just let me know.
