Firefox 1.0

15 Nov 2004, 08:15Firefox 1.0 is finally out. I download it, and it tells me that a dozen or so plugins that I have for it don't work with v1! Some of you might have noticed that too. I guess sometimes upgrading isn't always the best version. Look at XP SP2!

15 Nov 2004, 09:03The problem is just that the maker of your plugins haven't updated their extensions.
You can download an extension called Show Old Extensions, that will display incompatible or previously installed extensions. After that you can simply select your extension, press update, and it will search to see if the author has made a compatible version. A lot of developers are taking a little while updating as this is the first OFFICIAL release of firefox, everything before this was just testing and can't be expected to be completely compatible.

19 Nov 2004, 16:31Im glad theres people like you to test out all the bugs I havnt downloaded sp2 or firefox... I hear sp2 is having problems and only time you should go around to upgrade it is if you really must do it for some reson as for firefox I never used it before I was told there are some error here and there for it but its a good browser but I also hear its having some major errors of some kind some im staying away for a little while.
In the mean time ill just download my google tollbar and jump up and down waiting for most of the bugs out there to be fixed. Why download something now that could give you errors or problem when you dont have any now and you can wait for the time that theres less errors and it works better

19 Nov 2004, 17:23Heh, a friend of mine (that I don't see anymore because of working hours), didn't even know SP2 had installed on his machine because he had auto-update on... *sigh*
Anyway, SP2 is only unstable and creates problems when your machine is unstable right now. I've had absolutely zero problems with it.
Same with firefox, I have only a couple of plugin's, and only 1 actually CEASED to work after upgrading to 1.0 ... Another one was deactivated - but I enabled it again, and it works just fine.
Everything else was fine.

19 Nov 2004, 17:48I'll agree with you there. Tons of people report problems with SP2, I had no problems with my PC before, still none now. I think if you micro-manage your stuff well, it's seamless.
With Firefox 1.0, I had a little bit of troubles at first, but that was mainly because I hadn't uninstalled previous versions. The installer, seems as if it just updates your Firefox, but in reality there are some major changes to the data structure on your hard drive(with XP atleast). All (I believe) pre-1.0 releases of Firefox stored application data in a path...
$systemdir$:\Documents and Settings\$userdir$\Application Data\Phoenix\$profiledir$\$randomdirname$\
Firefox 1.0 however changed things up to...
$systemdir$:\Documents and Settings\$userdir$\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\$profiledir$$randomdirname$\
Or something along those lines. Performing the recommended uninstall helped a lot as residual profiles, settings, plugins, etc all get carried over when importing old settings and can cause some problems.
After I bothered to uninstall then reinstall, everything works flawlessly, though I can't drag and drop my tabs into order anymore, think maybe that was a plugin I forgot about.

19 Nov 2004, 17:59Yeah - I've read that plugin somewhere.
I still have 0.8 still in the add/remove list.
I just forgot to remove it first... But as long as it works and doesn't take up doo much disc space I'm fine with it.

19 Nov 2004, 21:26yeah, i've now managed to find updates for a few of the plugins, and now just about everything is working fine
[EDIT] Found a plugin that lets me play music inside Firefox! Also, if anyone has got the LookAhead plugin, could they please tell me how to use it?

21 Feb 2005, 06:58No offence springo, but this topic is over 3 months old.

21 Feb 2005, 16:28i kno its old, but wats the point of making a new topic when this is already to do with it. Firefox can be adapted because its open source, u can download it from the website.

21 Feb 2005, 20:57I know that. I use it

21 Feb 2005, 21:03But still, the question remains.
Adapt it why? And what to?

22 Feb 2005, 12:58What - you mean like surfing the internet?
- Like it already does...
Or complying with W3 standards?
- Like it already does...
Or playing .STF games?
- Why would you want to make firefox play a rare file-type of game?
The format should have come with a specific game-player, which takes advantage of that format. (BTW, I doubt there is a .STF game format - I just typed in random letters).
The moral to this message is: Firefox is designed to browse web pages. You want it to do something else, get something else that does what you want... That's where M$ went wrong with Internet Explorer.
