When I browse through the Quest archives and Quest games, I often see the same names on the forum, Computer Whizz, MaDbRiT etc. but I don't see any games created by them in the game section.
MaDbRiT has also made a very usefull library.

So I wonder, have you already released some public games ? Has Alex himself already released a game ?
With all your knowledge and ideas, you could probably create some great Int-fictions...

Please let us know...

I've not made a game, yet - I've been far too busy creating the system! One day I will perhaps, but I don't have any plans yet.

I wondered about that myself. Most of the active people on the forum haven't written a single game between them. It seems strange that they know so much about programming in Quest yet none of them have gotten around to writing so much as a single game.

Is there a reason for this?

well, im the top poster out of everybody. thats probably coz i like forums so much, im always checking these forums and replying when i can, i guess it just shows im a dedicated member :D

as for making a quest game... well, if you've played the "Ebersmile DEMO", you will know why i dont make them lol. however, it seems that everytime i load up QDK, and i see that screen, that black screen of nothingness, i think to myself... "man, im gunna have to start a game from scratch, and im so tired", then i close it down. But ive lost all knowledge of ASL, and QDK isnt really that exiting to use. but when ive got more free time away from college and work, and my girlfriend, ill get to know it all again, and then ill make a game. and dont pester alex to make one, it will never happen. never has, never will :P

Right now I'm working on my battle system. I haven't worked on it for a couple of weeks though and I don't feel "in the mood" lately for any programming at all (odd for me).
Once I get a job, I'll be in a better mood I reckon and I'll get back into it...

ANYWAY my reason for not making a game is purely because I haven't got around to it. I've made a couple of demo's, and such but haven't gotten around to making a full IF game yet. Another reason is because I'm not into those standard IF games about detectives/strange people you control over 1 or 2 days...

I'll get around to a game after my battle engine is done and then another one with a totally different engine.

Definitely not into the detectives type IF. I hate that film-noir type crap.

I've been thinking about releasing a couple small single player games, to lay down a foundation for a multiplayer game, but I've yet to finish updating my battle engine for the new QuestNet, it'd probably work for single player, but I don't want to work on something that will have to be fixed.

P.S. Being out of work is awful huh Whizz?

Being out of work isn't THAT bad....
You have the late sleep-ins, doing whatever you want all day. BUT the lack of money - so no going out. There's also no purpose to get up (apart from the times you need to go to the toilet).

I should release a small demo/two as well - but I just can't be bothered... Maybe tomorrow  .

It would certainly help Quest's reputation in the IF community out if the "peers" wrote a game or two. Considering how much programming they know, what they produced would be definitely be better than most of what is found on the downloads page.

That the peers haven't written a game tends to lead people to the kind of thinking "well, if the people who know the system best haven't written a game with it then Quest can't be much good..."

Personally speaking, I've never released a game for public consumption because I use Quest to make educational pieces masquerading as games for a very specific target audience. These involve lots of colourful pictures and photos so they are 'bulky' pieces.

I do this as the '#1 programming guy' the storylines are provided by a teacher friend of mine and it is my job to make Quest play in the way she wants to see. That I can usually manage to persuade Quest to do exactly what she envisages says a lot for how good Quest is.

You don't see these 'games' available for download as I can assure you that our combined output would be of no interest to normal adult players of Interactive fiction and they are usually massive anyway (due mostly to very high pictorial content!).

I think we've done upwards of a dozen pieces now and all the Quest community in general has seen is the "spin off" in the form of the libraries of code I've released which attempt to bundle up functionality I've needed to create for the pieces in a re-usable 'general purpose' way.

if you're really bothered about the "peers" releasing a game, you should get really good, then release one yourself.

Ive been around here for a long time, and the only thing ive bothered to release is a small game consisting of a few maps, no storyline, no combat, no quests.... nothing.

I am at the moment working on a game, which im pretty exited about finishing. ill give you notice on that when its done.

I wasn't speaking about me personally (although I am surprised that none of the people who know the most about Quest have written a game) but I'm quite sure there are a lot of people out there who judge Quest in just that way.

Of course, their attitude isn't helped much by the fact that the majority of Quest games - even the ones with multiple ratings of 5 and glowing reviews galore - are downright awful.
