Why do entire threads just keep disappearing with no warning

Cryophile
19 Jun 2006, 19:38
Seriously, this is getting annoying. There's been several that have just vanished off the face of the forums, and nobody is saying who did it. Several of us have said it wasn't us, but whoever is removing them hasn't posted a thing. Isn't this becoming excessive? I'm close to just taking the same direction as Zelimos, because this is pathetic.

Can you give any examples of threads which have been deleted?

Cryophile
19 Jun 2006, 19:44
Well, the one Daisy posted about, and the last I noticed was one where my last post said I was the grue in the back. They've both disappeared and nobody has said anything about it.

Ooooo, sounds like a murder mystery to me guv'!
I removed LOADS of topics the other night, as stu was posting 3463986451 times.
But other than that nope... I thought I saw a topic or two missing just a second ago.

Cryophile
19 Jun 2006, 21:24
Stu actually posts? With what?

CheerleaderChick
20 Jun 2006, 02:42
I always wundered what happens to things that are deleted from a computer! Isnt there a back up copy or something? This is kinda freakey, ya know!

paul_one
20 Jun 2006, 07:51
No - unless the database is like backed up every 5 minutes (unlikely... more like 15)..
And posts are slightly different to how files are removed..

And right after stu joined, she posted like 12 posts... 10 were new topics (or there abouts).

Daisy
20 Jun 2006, 15:42
what has she been posting?

paul_one
20 Jun 2006, 17:27
She was posting single line topics, saying hi, thanks, sorry, you suck, stuff like that...
So I deleted them as they were insightful to flame topics.

EDIT:
My new keyboard is effecting my typing.. I meant my message to look like *this*.

I didn't post THAT many threads, please, I'm no troll. And what is it about my posts that you hate? I've told you I'm a gurl, so please be a gentleman and stop picking on me. I'm sure you are no godless heathen communist, so I'm sure you don't support censorship. Don't you WANT this forum to be popular? If you keep deleting things people will get disgusted and leave in a VERY petulant manner.

paul_one
23 Jun 2006, 08:47
Haha, I wasn't picking on you...
Just you did post a fair amount of messages (I chased you around 2 forums for a little while).
And posted new topics which should have been PM's, or simple one liners.

And I was simply using a very large number to over-emphasise the fact.

Actually, I do lean a little more gently towards the female gender ;) ... But I try to be as fair as possible, no matter what gender people are.

Actually - this could be the work of arbutus...
I noticed one thread dissapeared as I clicked on it... No idea what was put in the message.
It was from Stu.

What an interesting group of new forum-folk we've had join during the month of June. Exciting, just exciting.

Where did Mr. W go? A pity. I'm in need of some witty comments. :)

Since this is a thread I created I might as well add this here. While I will still be here on the forums I've decided to completely duck out of these flame-wars and not have anything to do with them (including exercising Moderator privs). Alex, if you'd like you can remove my Mod status as I don't be doing anything with the current flame-war going on. This has turned from pathetic to worse and I'll quit while I'm ahead and not being blamed for anything. I try to be impartial, but it seems everyone is involved now and if I choose to defend anyone I'll likely be flamed myself.

Daisy
07 Jul 2006, 15:20
A bit melodramatic no?

davidw
07 Jul 2006, 15:31
Good on you, Slayer.

Melodramatic? Maybe. But it's hard to imagine any newcomers seeing the forum in its current state and actually wanting to stay. Maybe if enough people take a stance and insist that changes are made, then changes will be made. And we all know what the first change needs to be.

Daisy
07 Jul 2006, 15:43
David,

Sorry to say this as you seem to be a long time member, but you seem to be the only long timer feeding the flames.

Everybody else seems laidback about this but you. You seem to go after an old timer like Zelimos. Why David? Don't you like to seem a bigger nicer forum?

Daisy
07 Jul 2006, 15:44
By the way I meant nothing against Slayer who has been cool with me.

Other than the PM comments at the beginning.

paul_one
07 Jul 2006, 16:03
I also back up Slayer's stance.

I was considering either becoming VERY harsh on the subject, or just leaving it somepletely..
He's taken a good stand on the situation, and is choosing not to touch the subject.

I'm glad today has been calm, and congrats to everyone for that.

Daisy
07 Jul 2006, 16:09
So is Slayer still a mod?

Cryophile
07 Jul 2006, 17:16
Er, my PM comments weren't offensive or anything in the slightest, so I'm not sure if you're confusing me with anyone else. Also, I appear to still be a mod and will enforce rules such as spamming, etc. or editing posts for (excessive) swearing, if necessary, but I will not be touching the flame-war posts which basically consists of the entire Chat forum now.

Daisy
07 Jul 2006, 17:26

This coming from an idiot that hits on my little doe. I hope you realize that I have a perimeter set up. I am watching you.

i think its kind of sweet how the buck protects his doe. he even calls her bambi.

davidw
11 Jul 2006, 06:21
He calls her by an animal's name and you think it's cute? Most people would be offended.

BTW he's only acting like this to impress her, and if she's the sort of person who gets impressed by her boyfriend acting like an idiot on an internet forum, that doesn't say a whole lot for her.

If I may interject:

1. Humans are animals.
2. People love their pet animals (gerbils, hamsters, cats, dogs, ants, etc.)
3. Children cuddle with stuffed animals at bedtime.

It seems to be, with enough evidence, that animals are not Humans' enemies; therefore, what's the offense? Is it that since Humans love animals and that Humans have such a tough time loving other Humans, that for two people in love to assign a pet name to one another incites emotions of jealousy within those of us Humans that don't feel loved by another Human?

Well, she called me a bastard in a PM the other day. Nice girl.

Funnily enough, Unknown, I bet if you left the forum permanently no one would ever "hit" on your "doe" again. You do realise they're only doing it because you're such an easy target, don't you? You react in such a painfully amusing way, it would almost be a tragedy not to "hit" on your "doe" just to see how you respond to it.

I seriously doubt that. I'm sure you have the proof to back that statement up. Let's see it? She is a nice girl. Funnily enough if everyone would leave my little doe alone there wouldn't be a problem. It the problem of others trying to lay their meat hooks into my little bambi. If you really want, I'll post the PM she sent me on the forum later on. But as this makes her look bad, I'm not sure that's in anyone's best interests.

Of course, if hiding behind your girlfriend is the only way you know how to fight...
