IFComp past Quest entries
J_J
10 Mar 2018, 09:29I was curious if anyone had recommendations for games in past IFComp years that were written in Quest. Was DetectiveLand? Have any Quest games placed high in past contests? I've been playing some games from this past year and earlier(shout out to What Once Was), but I've been having some trouble filtering by Quest. IFComp always has such innovative entries, and I'd love to see the way that people in the community are using Quest in creative ways. (Feel free to recommend non IFComp games, if that is too narrow of criteria, but I would love to get a list of contest games).

18 Mar 2018, 00:21Detective land is a favorite of mine!
Edit: Yes, Detective land was in IfComp, and it was the 2016 winner.

18 Mar 2018, 14:14Hi J_J,
Thanks for playing W.O.W, there were also two Quest entries in Spring Thing 2017 that might interest you (one of them was mine and the other won one of the prizes).

19 Mar 2018, 17:31This ifdb list gives all of the quest games in IFComp:
http://ifdb.tads.org/search?sortby=ratu&newSortBy.x=0&newSortBy.y=0&searchfor=+system%3Aquest+tag%3Aifcomp+game
And here are some more non-IFComp games:

If you're looking for innovation, the inventor of Quest did Moquette, which is on the first list, and it has some crazy effects.

Three of us got together to make a game called Pixie's Quest:

There's not much Quest can do which we left out (as far as we know).
We'd very much appreciate some feedback from serious gamers.
We are (slowly) working on a group project, where multiple authors submit their own 'worlds' to a game, and a few of us decided to make this game to see how collaborating worked out (and to say "THANKS!" to Pixie, of course).
The group project will in no way resembles this game, mind you. We were just having fun while seeing how well we worked together and what we could pull off with Quest.
You'll get the best experience using the desktop player, but playing online should only effect minor things (most of which are undetectable to those who haven't played the game offline).

23 Mar 2018, 11:08Thanks to everyone for all the awesome suggestions! It's really wonderful to see the variety
brirush: thank you for the links - Moquette is particularly visually interesting. (edited to add I just realized you were the creator of Absence of Law. You're amazing.)
NecroDeath: I'm excited to play The Bony King of Nowhere! Are you working on a game for this years ifcomp?
K.V.: I can't wait to see what you guys end up creating :)

Yes I have a new game for Spring Thing, still searching for a title but you play the manager of a rock band, parser/puzzler like the others. K.V helped me out big time with some coding things on it.

Also, I almost covered up your post again! Not sure why we have similar posting habits...
