Swordbreaker

08 Jan 2015, 06:01
Through the dense fog our hero noticed a dark silhouette of a dark castle. Eventually his old rain-soaked map brought him to his target. He didn't have anything with him except for his favorite sword and remainings of an old armor with an unusual device – a sword-breaker. The hero looked around and stepped on the castle bridge...
The plot of this game is a story of a hero with an unusual and complicated life, who looks for treasures in an abandoned castle. On his way he is going to overcome lots of obstacles, fight the most unusual enemies, and solve the mysteries that are happening in the castle. In the end of it all he will get the treasures he deserves!
This game is a representative of quite a rare genre – interactive comic strips with exceedingly beautiful illustrations by a professional artist, and interesting nonlinear storyline. All actions and decisions in the game will change a storyline and the ending of the game. Every player's action will change the main hero's karma, so everyone can finish the game their own way. The achievement system will reward curious players with a big reward. Sometimes, you will have to make the most unusual decisions to survive... Every decision can be your last!
In our game you get:
- Interesting, nonlinear storyline.
- Variety of the game endings.
- The huge and mysterious castle.
- Variety of interesting locations and situations.
- Interesting enemies and castle inhabitants.
- Unbelievably beautiful illustrations.
- Achievements

I removed your post the first time, because it wasn't really relevant to this forum and treated it as spam, but I'll leave this one as long as you keep the discussion to this thread.
Best of luck to you and your game!
Edit: As a side note, I noticed you posted this exact thread on numerous other sites, some of which were removed as spam. If the site you're posting to isn't entirely relevant, it might be better if you ask the moderators/whoever beforehand so it isn't just automatically removed

08 Jan 2015, 19:07Before you do anything else, you really need to get your "professional translator" on the job. Your website is riddled with typos and wrong word usage and very offputting. It doesn't come across as professional at all or the kind of thing a respectable games company would do. If you expect people to buy this, you're going to need to fix the website before anything else.
"Sometimes any logic has to be rejected and help only curiosity and an independent way of thinking of the Player can!" from your website makes no sense at all.

09 Jan 2015, 04:11Well I wasn't going to come right out and say it, but since David already did...yeah, the writing is pretty bad. Just looking at the Facebook page is enough to make me lose confidence in the quality of the actual game.
If it were another type of game I might not have so much trouble looking past translation issues, but one with a heavy focus on text? It just comes off as unprofessional and honestly would make me wonder about what other major parts of the game are unpolished or unfinished.
We develop game about adventures of the Hero who got to the lock in search of treasures.
Game in style of a text quest with the most beautiful illustrations from the professional artist!
Game for the Android and iOS platform. There will be also a version for the personal computer a bit later!

09 Jan 2015, 05:18Hello guys! Sorry for this english mistakes, but all we have right now it two people (me and author of scenario plus our greatest illustrator, lulz), and game at the moment sponsored by two of us. So it comes to conclusion - "We don't have enough resources to do extra professional translation for 10+ different languages". BUT don't worry - all text in game was made by professional freelancer, we don't even try to do translation of such big amount of text (300+ scenes) ourself. I hope you, players, can say to us - good our translator or not.
As for site... Well, yeah)) I rewrite it as I have time to this - right now I doing last preparations for code in demo.
Thanks for your replies guys, this forum one of few, that somebody answer to us)) Maybe we post story intro video here, you can watch it and "taste" translation.
Best regards, Mike.

24 Jan 2015, 21:09Considering the game currently has 1 review of 5 out of 5, I'm guessing the site allows you to rate your own games? If not, I pity the language skills of the poor bastard who gave it that rating.
Seriously, get someone with a good grasp of English to test this for you BEFORE it's released. You've already lost me as a potential customer and I haven't even played the game.

29 Jan 2015, 08:40I gave it a quick look - I like the styling and how the gui works. As for the writing - there's some issues such as at the store page it says trasures rather than treasures and the translator doesn't appear to know about the apostrophe and the possessive s... that aside it isn't unreadable although the descriptions read more like a translation than how someone more fluid in English might have constructed them. Quite a nice app, I'll probably buy the finished thing.

Silver
29 Jan 2015, 13:42I'm not sure if the translation is 'wrong' as such, different languages construct sentences differently and they have that part right; and they may well have substituted your words (Russian?) for the right English ones. But it definitely reads like a translation if you see what I mean. It isn't incomprehensible or anything though.

29 Jan 2015, 21:11I have to ask why, if you've got this freelancer doing the translation for your game, don't you get him to take a look at the text on your website? First impressions are all important. A lot of people would take one look at the description of your game, with its typos and errors, and not even bother trying the demo because the assumption would be that the text in the game would be as bad.

03 Jul 2016, 14:18Ok. I don't know if i should be already typing this, but lets go.
I did buy the game, but only played it for 15 minutes, what means i cannot talk much about the story itself.
The best things are the images and the sound track. The images are very competent. I do not think it should deserve an award, as illustration, but it is very cool. The sound track is the best. Very interesting and looks to be very well used.
May people here already pointed the text problems. I believe it begins when you can only get introduction movie on Russian or whatever be that language. Polish, perhaps? You may only change game to English after the opening video, what suggests there is not an English option. Ok, lets move on. It doesn't matters.
But, hey? Why doesn't matters? Because as you can feel at the very beginning of the game, there is only a barely believable argument for the character entering into a castle and steal everything. The game was designed to be a dungeon crawling without many motivations or character deep development. The character is treated as "our hero", what means it has absolutely no name. No personality. No nothing. It is ok for old games and many theorists even prefer this lack of character, as it allows player to fill the gaps himself / herself. However the game also gives you no motivation. The idea is you get inside and steal everything. "Here" her is a dubious term, as the guy is a burglar.
Then problems follows. One guy somewhere pointed it was a crap having to click on text in order to scroll it down. Actually, i thing is not an issue at all. The real problem is that the player gets absolutely vey few texts and very few information. The game offers at each step two or three options where the player must just guess things. There is no real information. Do you want to get the skeleton's sword, the game asks? "I don't know" is the most proper option - not possible in the actual game - because you have just a clue abou the character's items based on the pictures displayed. The dungeon crawling games simply lacks a system where player would base choices knowing about the character. As the text also gives no clues, the player must just guess about the options. This is very uncomfortable.
As a good point, there is always a picture illustrating every single scene, and every single move. The artist worked a lot for this game, and actually did a good job!
You may only expect to be walking around a huge castle as monsters pops in front of "our hero" as the player must guess how to deal with them. Each scene has not many steps. I mean, when planning what i call myself "conflicts" - a situation where player must make choices in order to outcome any kind of oppositions, be it a fight, a discussion, a persuasion task - there are steps. You win this little particle of the conflict and takes an edge, and then goes to the next step until you get victory somehow. Most of the conflicts are split into two steps or "all or nothing" steps. Do not even bother trying to figure out if there is a certain course of action more effective. There is no system to encourage you acting a given way or a good text indicating what would be best doing.
In short, the game has impressive props and a very competent design. But a poor planning. And a terrible text. Seems while a team was working on good pictures and an inspiring music, the head developer was concerned about making it big. Just big, like the old times quality measure for parser games - the number of rooms!
