Volunteers needed to categorise games
Alex
13 Oct 2009, 17:25Would anybody like to be a moderator on textadventures.co.uk?
Basically all this means at the moment is that you get to categorise the games. Games either go in the "Sandpit" if they're not a real game (we get quite a lot of test games set in a house... sigh), or they go into a proper category.
If you'd like to volunteer, please let me know and I'll give your account access.
Also if anyone has any feedback on the available categories, that would be great. I've just been through a load of games and ended up categorising them as "Mystery", when what we really need is a "Puzzle" category I suppose. Also I guess there should be an option for authors to suggest a category so that we don't have to work it out ourselves.

13 Oct 2009, 19:25I was thinking maybe a subcatogory like make the current fantasy category Fantasy-Medieval and another called Fantasy-Adventure. That might save some braincramping.

14 Oct 2009, 15:53The option to be grouped into more than one category might be beneficial. For instance, one author may wish to categorize their game as "mystery/puzzle", whilst another may be more specific, and go for "sci-fi mystery/puzzle". (The "sci-fi" makes it more appealing, in my view!)

18 Oct 2009, 22:07That is a good suggestion as well. For example CJ's shiversword and sir loin should appear in both comedy and fantasy.
If that is possible to do.
Since no one else seems to be responding to this. I may be willing to help you out.
The only issue I would have would be that I am currently unemployed and have plenty of time. If I find a decent job I will probably find myself with less time.

19 Oct 2009, 17:40Yes the old moderators still have their powers - it just seems no-one's been using them for months...

23 Oct 2009, 14:52Yeah, my work had upped the security on game sites. Since the archive is full of 'games', it is blocked from here which is where I normally would be viewing it. Seems I don't have a lot of time at home. I will still try to up my own efforts in checking the archive during my late night evenings of insomnia and see what I can do as an all-powerful.. errr... semi-powerful mod.

25 Nov 2009, 13:48Are you still looking for volunteers?
Will the moderator have the power to delete and overwrite a game if someone makes an improvement?
It seems that I am the biggest pain in the butt on the site lol
I playtest my games alot but it always seems like I miss something and my luck is it's something critical and usually something easy to fix.
Maybe I'm just a perfectionist.
But in any case if you are still looking for some I will volunteer.

22 Sept 2010, 05:27Hey,
I don't necessarily think I'd be a good candidate for the job but I have noticed that a lot of the newer games have yet to be categorized. Among others, one I recently uploaded for Slackers Inc. called "The Quest to find the Dark Hills."
I think the above idea is a great one! I recon that it wouldn't be much help to an already uploaded game though. lol.
