When commenting on games...

23 Nov 2007, 16:24Apparently, one cannot leave an honest comment without fear of retaliation in the archives. I'm not worried about it; I'm not losing money over it. haha
I just thought I would pass on a kind warning about the goings on over there. Just as many had predicted, a larger slew of mangled games is being uploaded into the archives. Then a surprising number of votes are being cast with high scores for these non-working error-filled games.
I myself did not vote on the games. I simply entered my comments about how, in one instance, the game is unfinishable even if you follow the added walkthrough (or "walkthrou" as one gent put it).
It very well may be that the poster of the game and the commentor/score poster are the same person logged in under two different names.
My example is a game poster named dther99. The commentor of this game is Michael the gamer. Now in one case I might have sounded a little more harsh than others but not nearly to the level of davidw. (I still like you though, David! hehe)
My review on a game was this:
I'm not going to rate this. If I did, it would be a one or a negative number. Please make an actual game before posting on here. This file seems to be no more than a practice file to see if commands can be used.
"Its pie" when you look at the pie.
According to the walkthrough, you have to "pull the book" but the commands "pull the book", "pull book", "pull", "pull the book that says lever" and "pull book that says lever" do not work.
By the way, you must type "book that says lever" when you want to do something with it... look, x, take, speak to.
I played it longer than it took to create it, I'm sure.... which wasn't long, I assure you.
His (Michael the gamer) reply was this:
I know it wasn't good but why the negative feelings?
Man if your a teacher all those kids that you teach will have a hard time.
and guess what?
Your Kings Quest is gone from the 10 Best rating games
lol
and this:
You just improving on making great games.
That jerk Steve Lingle is a negative guy.
Just Ignore him
That Walkthough was Helpful
Quite laughable, really. The only thing accurate about his comments is that he has the magical power of removing games off the top 10 list. I don't mind people giving me bad ratings if a game is bad but being given a bad rating by a grammar-impaired child makes me think that these people are in charge of the archives. Either put a happy rating with a happy score or cry yourself to sleep when your game is given a bad rating for your honesty.
Since my life savings went into making the game...I guess I'll have to go sell my house and live in a box now. Michael the gamer has taught me a lesson. HAHA

EDIT:
I missed one... hehehe:

Looks like the local nursery for delinquent idiots recently got its internet connection fixed.
Is anyone moderating the main page? And if not, why not? Someone ought to ban the lot of them and delete their games straight off.
Whatever good Dr Froth's IFComp entry has done for Quest in terms of how it's viewed as a credible IF system would be gone in a moment if anyone from outside the community saw that pack of idiots using Quest.

Nick, you bothered to save? Some rooms say "if you reached this room, you're sure to die" and some say that a ticking started. Even if you're many rooms away, you'll die in an apparent explosion. I considered doing a little map but I don't think I'll bother.
By the way, in a pitch black room, I was able to read writing on a wall without the aid of any light. I'm superman!... or a raccoon with night vision.
Aren't you glad I'm not rating these?
Review of Killer Syringe

Sorry. Demo or not... This game is similar to a load of random writing. The commands don't work which you are told to use. The spelling, as indicated several times in these reviews, is more than bad.
You can take the wallet and the key even though you can't see it before killing the old man.
In fact, you can take any object without killing the person who is holding it.
You cannot win even following the walkthrough...
Really consider re-writing this game.

24 Nov 2007, 14:06A moderator would be a good idea in case people post spam, vulgar comments or rate their own games under another name, etc.
Steve has a very good reputation here as some-one who comments well, and has made some good games. I've thought about making other game into text versions too, you really need to know the inter working of some games and know the plot, etc inside out to do so, and is a kind of tribute to the game...
By the way, now that DavidW hates you, he will never stop. He has strong opinions and high standards.
Michael, you also spelt 'attention' wrong, it's not 'attencion'.
Also I wonder why Dther99 hasn't posted at all on the forums? I'm sure the forum dis-allows multiple users with the same email address...
Anyway I think I'll play all the new games and check them out. By the way, I forgot my name over here was 'Elexxorine' and registered under 'DePaw', there doesn't seem to be a way to change it, but I'd like to keep the consistency so you know it's me. 24 Nov 2007, 22:17What if you only allowed games to be put up in textadventures from registered users of Quest.
I mean, think about it. You only have six rooms and thirty objects in the trial version of Quest 4. This makes it only a testing ground to even see if you like using the program.
Of course you can make a one room game, I just made one. But... it far exceeded the table scrap that the trial version gives you to work with as far as items (and even "rooms").
This would keep people from downloading quest for an afternoon and uploading the product of one or two learning sessions. If they are able to make a "masterpiece" game from six rooms and 30 objects than they really should buy the program. If they do not want to do that there is still the IF archive and the IFDB to upload the games to.
If you are using quest, and you have been using quest for longer than thirty days, you should buy it.
So that is my take on it. I think that if somebody threw down the cash for the program they would be less likely to post up some garbage like we are seeing right now. (Though they still might put up some crappy game, the steep price of Quest almost would give them the right to one or two.)
Anyway, what do ya'll (Texas Dialect) think of that.

Too be honest, I dont like the idea because not everyone ownes Quest Pro.
About 3% maybe more or less have Quest Pro and post games they done in textadventures.co.uk
And you will have about 10 games instead of over 100
