I have created a new website to replace the Quest Games Archive.

It's here: http://www.textadventures.co.uk

It's more flexible and powerful than the old archive. As well as allowing you to post reviews again (something that was disabled a while ago on the old Quest Games Archive due to spam), you can now upload a game and it will be instantly available for download.

Logging in

If you ever submitted a game or posted a review to the old Quest Games Archive, you will already have an account on textadventures.co.uk as everything has been transferred over.

In order to log in, click the "forgot your password?" link to receive an email allowing you to create the password for your account.

Once logged in, you can start posting reviews and comments, and you can upload games.

Uploading games

When you upload a game, it will be available immediately for download. Please note that at the moment, each game has to be manually set up for the "play online" feature, so you may have to wait a day or two for this feature to be available for your game.

Also note that I will of course check each game after it has been uploaded, and will remove anything inappropriate - e.g. anything that isn't a Quest game.

Feedback

I'm only announcing this here for the moment, so you can give it a go and let me know if anything is broken, or if you'd like to see anything changed or improved. Please let me know your feedback.

In of couple of weeks the old Quest Games Archive will start to redirect to textadventures.co.uk.

I think it's a great idea Alex.
These last few months have been some big steps for this site.
Congrats!

Why can you no longer see the size of a file?
(That way when you saw a game that was 3kb, you knew it was going to suck and you should stay away.)

And there I was thinking that size wasn’t important :)

But as the last batch of awful games showed, size is no indication of quality. One of them was over 200 KB yet still an unplayable mess.

Size is important, but it's no guarantee of quality.

Is that a new game you're referring to?

Yep. That mouse-driven effort.

I played through the entire game and didn't like the style, method, or even the story. I felt it was an incomplete attempt and IF was definitely not the proper medium.

Noooooo... Alex!
I finished King's Quest V (full version) and I tried to upload it to the new site but it won't accept .zip files...... NOOOOO
I have included the .ASL file along with a .QSG, .TXT, and a couple .JPG files.

What do I do!!!!!! I'm going to send this file to you separately in hopes that you can get it on the site or somewhere since I won't be able to do it from my work.

Please help!!

EDIT:
Sorry, I just realized that I saved it as a .rar file and the site does accept .zip files. Let me work on that....

EDIT:

LOL, no worries. I panicked. I changed the file extension to .zip and it uploaded fine.

Just to let you know I've now addressed some of the stability problems with the "play online" feature - it shouldn't go down so often now.

However, if you do encounter problems (either being unable to connect, or if you suddenly get kicked off a game) please let me know.

Hmmm...every game I try says "connection failed"

Am I doing it right?
- I click the blue button to play beta online.
- It takes me to a Quest-like screen with no description other than a blurb about sending errors to alex@axeuk.com
- Since there is no description, I type "look"
- a few seconds later, "connection failed" is displayed....

Is there a starting command I should type first?

When you click on a game, that game should load automatically.

What browser and OS are you using? Do you have Flash and JavaScript enabled?

Erm, it probably won't work in the office as you go through a proxy/firewall which could theoretically filter out the flash stuff/connections.

poo....that's probably it. They always want us to work at work. I don't get the logic.

I've now made some changes to the server software which greatly improve performance, so if you found playing online a little slow before, it should now be quite a bit quicker for you.

doesn't work for me on linux, with Opera 9, Firefox 2 (it crashes firefox) or Konqueror.
I tried with for ex. Lodus, which was working on firefox windows.

here is a screenshot, even if it won't help much...

I have flash 9, and all sort of javascript allowed.

Hi! I'm new here. Just visited the textadventures.co.uk website and have started playing Mansion, which looks very promising.

I'm now wondering if I can save my progress in the game while playing online: does this vary from game to game depending on the creator or is there a way I can save games for whichever game I play?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You can't save games while playing them online, though this is a feature I hope to add soon.

If you want to be able to save your progress, you should download Quest (http://www.axeuk.com/quest/download.htm). If you play the game using Quest, you can save your progress at any point during the game.
